I almost don't know how to begin this post after all of the attention Dominic's story has received.  I think I fear I will never be able to appropiately express my gratitude to everyone who has been involved in celebrating Dominic's life and progress.  Most of the time when we suffer, we know God makes good come out of that, but we do not get to see the effects of the transformative power of suffering.  We do not get to see how in the end, our sufferings can truly help others in a way that just words or actions cannot.  Somehow the lessons that come from suffering are more powerful and life changing, more so than any other life lesson.  I realize we have been given a rare gift to see so many celebrate Dominic and his life.  It has been so encouraging to hear how peoples' lives have been changed because of his story.  We are grateful for this gift, we are grateful to all of you for pouring out your love, support and prayers.  I am certain it is exactly your prayers and love that finds us where we are with Dominic today, and that is a very good place!!

Some of Dominic's progress is:

We are returning the feeding pump as we are not doing continuous feeds anymore.  We can feed him as he asks for it without it having adverse effects on his sodium levels.

His sodium levels have remained stable.

We just found out he is not having any issues with his blood (anemia problems). The doctor actually called us with the results and told us they were "boring".  BORING SOUNDS GREAT!!

His Liver/Kidney function is stable.

Just waiting on the fungal meningitus to heal up completely, but from all appearances things are progressing the way they should be in this area.

It is so wonderful to slowly, but surely, get our little guy  back.  As we continue to wean him off of the meds., we see more of our little guy coming back.  The only thing Dominic needs to work on is his physical needs.  After being on his back for over a month, he needs a lot of physical therapy to get strong again.  He has made huge strides in this area!  Thank you again for all of your prayers and love!

                                  Sweet time with Philomena

Playing with peoples' hair is one of Dominic's favorite things to do.
All is good when he is with his brothers Mark and Augustine!

It is great to see him having tummy time after being on his back for so long!

He is looking at a toy here (not pictured)

Getting tired of tummy time :)

He keeps on staring at  his hands, it is the                                   funniest thing!
                                  Always smiles with Bernadette

                                      There are those hands again!

  1. I agree that boring sounds great when it comes to health matters.
Hands are interesting now that I think about it. They can move this way and that, they can perform many tasks, the fingers are different sizes, you have interesting lines on your palm, nails grow, the hands are mirror images of each other, they can move together or separately, they can make noises, they can feel.
Great to see pictures. Glad that is recovery is progressing.

  2. Thanks for posting all the pictures. Glad to hear of his progress.
Dominic has touched many lives b/c it is a remarkable story. From the pregnancy all the way through where you are today. I think his story stirs up a renewal of faith and hope in each person who has followed him along the way. Babies and children who suffer bring out the compassion in people. And any mother or father could put themselves in your shoes and try to imagine the heartache involved in seeing your child struggle. And to top it off he is a beautiful baby!
Prayers continue for the meningitis issue.

  3. OH, my gosh, what a little lover boy! I love his smile, it's the greatest thing in the world! I love how he plays with the girls hair...so cute, and sweet. Is he gentle? Simeon is not. My 4th child loved (still does) hair and she has always been so very gentle, then my 5th child loved hair and she was not so gentle, just wanted the hair...So funny!

Thanks so much for the updates and pictures, we all love seeing your sweet family!

I started reading your blog during Advent of last year, and offering up my own suffering for your son and family has been a true blessing to me. Thank you so much for sharing his life with everyone. I continue to pray for all of you and can't wait to see all the beautiful things God has planned for Dominic.

  9. Hi Mary, Mark & kids,

I read the post you left from the time before last, it was while I was about to go to bed. I had been thinking of challenges in my own life and boy after after I read about the housekeeping , and doc showing up (robot) etc ... I just laughed. Since you all have been a huge part of our lives, I don't find myself complaining about things. We think of you all,the suffering you all have endured especially Dominic in this life time. How Jesus suffered for us all. Thank you. Thank you for sharing Dominic. Thank you for the updates which we cherish.
Take care and God Bless you all.
    love,
    The Bone Family

  13. I found your blog through the news article that was done about your son. I wanted to reach out to your family because our son who is now 6 months old has frontal nasal dysplasia sequence. Our stories are similar, at 20 weeks gestation we found out one of our baby twins head was growing abnormal. We did multiple MRI's and ultrasounds and the doctors could never figure out what was going on and told us to wait until they were born to figure out what is causing his head to be misshapen. So when my babies were born that's when a team of doctors diagnosed him with frontal nasal dysplasia sequence.

Our little simon just had surgery 3 weeks ago and is doing remarkably well. Its comforting to read about your story and know that we are not alone in this process.
Here is my email address lindsarbuckle@gmail.com if you want further contact. I'll be following your blog and watching your little son grow healthy and strong.

    Best wishes,

    Lindsey Arbuckle
